Football: Ex-Pahokee star Nate Willis verbally commits to Kentucky

By Jeff Greer

Nate Willis verbally committed to Kentucky on Wednesday morning, perhaps finally ending his lengthy recruiting saga.

Willis, who’s currently enrolled at Arizona Western Community College, originally committed to play for Skip Holtz at USF, but backed off that pledge last September. He claimed close to 20 scholarship offers, including Baylor, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Arizona State, but tweeted this morning that Kentucky was his choice. He’ll make his official visit to Lexington this weekend.

“I just committed to Kentucky,” Willis tweeted. “Looking forward to meeting (new UK coach Mark Stoops) so we can seal the deal! Go get your number 1 jerseys!”

Willis emerged at Arizona Western as an athletic and good-sized cornerback. He made 31 tackles and had three interceptions as a freshman, and followed that with two interceptions and a touchdown as a sophomore. He was the third-ranked JuCo cornerback by 247Sports and a consensus top 60 JuCo player in the country.
