By Matt Porter

Two area seniors, Dwyer’s Kai James and Lincoln Park Academy’s Brandy Montgomery, could receive one of the highest honors for a prep basketball player.

Both were nominated for the 35th annual McDonald’s All-American Games, the showcase for high school hoops that has included some of the top stars in NBA (and more recently, WNBA) history.

Nationwide, 814 seniors were nominated for the games. The final roster of 24 boys and 24 girls will be announced at 5 p.m. Feb. 14 on ESPNU.

The games will be played April 3 in Chicago.

James, a 6-foot-5 post and Florida State signee, won a gold medal with the U.S. team at last summer’s FIBA Under-17 World Championships in Amsterdam. The inside force on a loaded Dwyer (17-4) team, she averages 10.5 rebounds per game.

Montgomery, a 5-foot-11 wing who has signed with Auburn, averages 31 points per game for Lincoln Park (15-4). She had a game-high 43 points Thursday in an 84-82 overtime loss to Sebastian River, the No. 1 team in Class 7A.
