Ex-Lake Worth QB Luis Peguero enrolls at Palm Beach Central

By Jeff Greer

In the midst of the final scramble toward national signing day for graduating seniors, Palm Beach Central landed the area’s biggest off-season move for an underclassman.

Ex-Lake Worth quarterback Luis Peguero transferred to Palm Beach Central after the holiday break, both schools’ coaches confirmed Friday. Peguero, a sophomore, immediately brings a dynamic passing game to Central, which used a run-heavy offense to reach the Class 8A regional semifinals last fall.

Peguero (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) threw for 1,133 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions in his first season as a starter, but Lake Worth struggled to a 1-9 record in the brutal District 14-7A, which included Atlantic, Dwyer, Royal Palm Beach and Santaluces, a few of the area’s best teams.

Palm Beach Central possesses up-and-coming receivers in senior-to-be Rudy St. Germain and rising junior Andrew Prince. With rising junior running back Tommy McDonald, a BCS-level prospect, and perhaps the nation’s junior offensive tackle in Kc McDermott, Central could have one of the state’s most well-rounded offensive attacks.

Peguero will be eligible to practice in the spring with Central, but cannot participate in the spring exhibition game because the transfer occurred during the same school year Peguero played football for Lake Worth. He will be fully eligible for the 2013 season.
