Atlantic DB Brisly Estime commits to Syracuse

By Jeff Greer

Let’s see if this one sticks: Atlantic defensive back and return man Brisly Estime said Saturday night he verbally committed to Syracuse while visiting the upstate New York school’s campus.

Estime (5-9, 185, No. 10 on the Big Board) has committed to three schools prior to Syracuse, but the closeness to signing day gives reason to think this one will hold. Estime spoke several times to offensive coordinator George McDonald, who just started at Syracuse a few weeks ago, and finally got an offer Saturday night. He said he accepted it on the spot.

Estime was the Post’s Large Schools Defensive Player of the Year after a breakout senior season. He helped Atlantic win the highly competitive District 13-7A and advance to the 7A regional quarterfinals. Estime compiled four interceptions, 306 receiving yards and nine touchdowns his senior season, including five from punt or kick returns.

He had his scholarship offer from North Carolina State withdrawn after his visit to the school, and lost his offer from Iowa State when he took an official visit to Western Michigan earlier in January. Arkansas was close to offering Estime a scholarship, but backed off this week.
