Football notes: Forest Hill names coach; Olympic Heights players sign

By Matt Porter

By the numbers, Forest Hill is one of the least successful football programs in Florida. The Falcons have won just seven games since 1999, including two in Chris Kokell’s three-year tenure.

Jude Blessington wants to turn it around.

Blessington, who in December was named interim head coach, was named full-time coach by athletic director Kurt Van Valkenburgh. Kokell resigned in December after going 2-28 in three seasons.

The Falcons forfeited their one-win 2011 after former assistant coach Michael Dudeck was arrested on felony charges of falsifying transcripts for Forest Hill and Dwyer players. Dwyer forfeited 14 games, 12 of them wins.

Blessington, a Philadelphia-area native, played linebacker at Ursinus.

Olympic Heights signings: Matt Montgomery, an offensive lineman at Olympic Heights, will play his college football at Navy. Montgomery (6-3, 260) was chosen for the Nike Florida all-star game, the Florida-Georgia all-star game and the FACA District 20 all-star team. He was a second-team Post All-Area selection.

Two of Montgomery’s teammates made their college choices official: defensive back and kick returner Deago Sama (Alcorn State) and defensive Aaron Leo (Mars Hill). Sama was an All-Area honorable mention pick.
