Lopez, a Palm Beach Central forward and Florida State signee, was named the Class 5A Player of the Year by the Florida Dairy Farmers and Florida high school sports writers. She is now a finalist for the statewide player of the year, which will be announced next week.

Lopez, who was Class 2A Player of the Year last year while playing for American Heritage, scored a school-record 48 goals with 21 assists in leading the Broncos to the 5A state semifinals.

Palm Beach Central coach Tom Dawkins finished second in the 5A Coach of the Year voting, behind Miami-Lourdes Academy’s Ray Walden. Lourdes beat Central 4-0 in the state semifinals.

Benjamin senior forward Kali Chaplin finished second in the Class 2A Player of the Year voting. Chaplin helped Benjamin (21-1-1) reach the state semifinals, where it lost to Miami-Gulliver Prep.

American Heritage coach Steve Burgess finished third in the 2A Coach of the Year voting. His Stallions (22-1-1) lost to Gulliver Prep in the regional finals.
