Dwyer’s Anthony Williams signs with Wagner

By Matt Porter

Anthony Williams wasn’t worried as he watched several Dwyer teammates sign on signing day. He had a few Division 2 scholarship offers and one from Jacksonville University, but he felt a more enticing opportunity would come his way.

It came in the form of a phone call from Wagner, an FCS school on Staten Island, N.Y.
Williams visited last weekend and signed a letter of intent on Tuesday. He’ll play strong safety for the Seahawks.

Williams, a 5-foot-9, 200-pound linebacker at Dwyer, was a second-team All-Area selection as a senior.

“I think he will do real well,” Dwyer coach Jack Daniels said. “Very smart. Good athlete and physical.”

On signing day, Wagner inked Dwyer running back Wayne Brown (5-10, 180), who also played linebacker for the Panthers.

Wagner’s current roster also includes three wide receivers out of Jupiter Christian — redshirt junior Marshyl Rothman, junior Josh Talbott and sophomore Austin Talbott – and Dwyer alum Daevonte Barnett, a redshirt sophomore defensive lineman.
