Stat Tuesday: baseball stats leaders for Tuesday, Feb 25, 2013

By Matt Porter

Last baseball season we started a weekly series called Stat Tuesday, in which we spotlighted different players and trends based on the stats that coaches report to The Post.

We began taking stats last Sunday, so here is the first round of baseball stats leaders. Fair warning: it’s early in the season, so not every area team has reported stats. It usually takes a week or two to get everyone up to speed, so please be patient if you don’t see your favorite player listed here.

At a glance, it’s clear Palm Beach Gardens senior Joey Boyd is off to a hot start — he’s 9-for-15 for a .600 average and 10 RBI. Teammates Pavin Smith (.438, HR, 7 RBI) and several other Gators are swinging hot bats, too.

Benjamin junior Bennett Sousa (.714) is the area’s leading batter after two weeks. He’s also 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in his first two starts.

Note: make sure your coaching staff is reporting stats to us. Have them call 561-820-4440 this and every Sunday from 2-6 p.m. Your help is appreciated.
