Palm Beach County knows only one season: football season.

Spring practices are in full swing and area football teams are gearing up for their spring games at the end of this month. Here are the details and a preview of what’s to come.

FIVE BIG MATCHUPS

Dwyer at Vero Beach: You like passing? Attend this game. Dwyer has one of the county’s best receivers in Johnnie Dixon, who has offers from Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Miami and about a dozen other top schools. He and his running mates, Clint Stephens and Ezra Saffold, have promising junior-to-be Daniel Parr delivering the ball. Big-time schools are looking at defensive lineman Mark Kelly and safety Shawn Boone. Vero, meanwhile, has the most productive passing game on the Treasure Coast. Quarterback Dalton Stokes threw for 2,514 yards and 25 touchdowns last year as a junior. Receivers Javonte Bagley, Will Dawkins and Jimmy Williamson combined for 1,759 yards on 137 catches.

Glades Central at Fort Pierce Central: The Raiders boast two excellent receivers (Ronquavion Tarver and John I. Leonard transfer Jerry Jones) and standouts at every position. The Cobras, who went 11-1 and lost in the Class 7A regional finals, graduated a host of talented seniors but returns two top defensive prospects (end Rashawn Shaw and linebacker Shareiff Rhaheed) and talented quarterback Sam Vaughn (1,955 passing yards, 21 touchdowns).

New Smyrna Beach at Palm Beach Central: Central is excited about next year’s blue-chip seniors: nationally recruited offensive lineman Kc McDermott, running back Tommy McDonald, receiver Rudolph St. Germain and defensive back Trint Hanson. New Smyrna Beach returns quarterback Marcus Johnson, who led Volusia and Flagler Counties in passing yards (1,946) and touchdowns (18) last year as a junior, and running back D’Cota Dixon (521 yards, 14 touchdowns).

Park Vista at Atlantic: Two deep, talented programs. A good battle between Atlantic’s passing attack, featuring 6-foot-5 receiver Adly Enoicy and quarterback Thomas Owens, and a Park Vista defense led by BCS-caliber safety Marques Gayot and linebacker Renard Cheren. It’s also the unofficial debut of new Atlantic coach T.J. Jackson.

John I. Leonard at Cardinal Newman: The marquee player is Crusaders receiver Travis Rudolph, who has committed to Miami but has interest from Florida and Auburn, among others. Leonard, however, boasts last year’s leading receiver among large schools. That’s junior-to-be Travares Martin (46 catches, 860 yards, five touchdowns).

Notes: Another interesting matchup: Palm Beach Gardens and Royal Palm Beach, two teams with big potential … Two programs will not play spring games: American Heritage, which wants to get extra practice time in advance of its trip to a team camp in Alabama, and Inlet Grove, which is young and needs the practice, coach Jimmie Bell said … In the month of May, each team may hold 20 practice sessions, which may include one game. Teams may start practices on May 1 and hold contact drills beginning May 3.
