By Matt Porter

After making it to Lakeland, three local girls hoops standouts were recognized by the statewide media.

Dwyer’s Keyanna Harris, her teammate Kai James, and Grandview Prep’s Neydja Petithomme finished in the final three in their respective classes for the Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball award.

Harris, who along with James led Dwyer to a program-first state semifinal appearance, finished second in the Class 8A balloting. James tied for third. The winner was Dr. Phillips’ Sydnei McCaskill, who was dominant in a state semifinal win over Dwyer.

Petithomme finished second in Class 2A after helping Grandview to the state semifinals for the second year in a row. LaKaris Salter of state champion Tallahassee-FAMU won the award.
