Football: Seminole Ridge’s Almonte, Turene sign with colleges

By Jeff Greer

They weren’t up on the stage at Seminole Ridge’s signing day ceremony last month, but Mike Almonte and Elie Turene will get their own chance to shine Thursday.

The duo will sign their national letters of intent at school, making them the sixth and seventh Seminole Ridge seniors to find colleges. Almonte (6-0, 170, No. 45 on the Big Board) will sign with New Mexico Military Institute, a junior college in Roswell, N.M. Turene (5-10, 200, No. 51 on the Big Board) plans to sign with Division II Delta State, which is in Cleveland, Miss.

Almonte injured his wrist early in the 2012 season and missed significant time, but returned to safety and made an instant impact for the regional finalists. Turene played multiple positions for Ridge, from defensive back to wing back, running for 616 yards and eight touchdowns in 2012.
