Palm Beach Central senior Kc McDermott, one of the most sought-after offensive tackles in the country, said he’s close to making his college choice.
At Saturday’s Nike Football Training Camp in Miami, McDermott told reporters he will make his decision at the end of March, and it’s going to be either Miami or Notre Dame. McDermott later confirmed that information with the Post.
McDermott (6-6, 274) will make his decision over spring break, which runs Friday through Sunday, March 31. He plans to visit Notre Dame, and then take in a spring practice at Miami. He said he’ll announce his choice after that.
As we’ve noted before, he has ties to both schools. His brother Shane is a junior center at Miami. His oldest brother Tyler was recently hired as a graduate assistant at Notre Dame.
Like his brother Shane did in 2010, McDermott will play in the Under Armour All-America Game, which will be played in January 2014.
Dixon shines: Dwyer wide receiver Johnnie Dixon has a list of scholarship offers that includes Florida, Miami, Alabama and Auburn, among many others. With so many options, he hasn’t yet decided where he’ll take his official visits this fall.
There is one place he plans to visit this summer, though: Oregon.
That’s where Nike holds its annual The Opening combine for the nation’s top senior recruits. Dixon earned an invitation to the event after performing well at the Nike camp in Miami.
The blazing-fast Dixon (5-10, 192) is the only area player to earn an Opening invite so far. Last year, Glades Day’s Kelvin Taylor (now at Florida) and Glades Central’s Will Likely (Maryland) attended the camp.
Bronson impresses: Village Academy defensive end Kevin Bronson caught the eye of 247Sports at the Miami camp. The recruiting website said Bronson’s quick first step and 6-3, 233-pound frame stood out. Bronson has offers from UCF and UMass.
