Heath Evans 7-on-7 Championship ends after seven years

By Matt Porter

The Heath Evans high school 7-on-7 football tournament will not return for an eighth season.

Evans, a King’s Academy grad who spent 10 years in the NFL, said the TV analyst work he began after his 2010 retirement is getting in the way of his event.

Acknowledged as one of the premier summer 7-on-7 tournaments in the country, the event annually provided a glimpse at more than 75 major college prospects from many of the state’s top programs.

“This was a tough decision but I am spending more and more time in Los Angeles with the NFL Network and I did not want to dilute the quality of the event,” Evans said in a press release.

Through the years, Randy Moss, Vince Wilfork, Wes Welker, Ryan Tannehill, Matt Cassel, Abe Elam, Donte Stallworth, Kevin Faulk and Ben Watson visited the tournament and spoke to the players, on and off the field.
