Jimmie Bell resigns as Inlet Grove football coach

By Jeff Greer

Jimmie Bell guided Inlet Grove to back-to-back playoff berths and the first district title in program history. On Friday, he’ll step down as the Hurricanes’ head coach.

Bell informed the Post of his decision via text message, saying he’d officially resign after three years at Inlet Grove.

“I’ve been blessed over the past 20 years to coach Super Bowl champs in Damien Berry and soon-to-be Hall of Famer Devin Hester, and doctors and lawyers,” Bell said in the text message. “The hour has come for me to spend some of that quality time with my three kids. Again, it was a great ride at the Grove. God has truly blessed me in this career to take over two programs in Suncoast in 2000 and Inlet in 2010 and turn both losing programs into district champions and playoff teams.”

In his three seasons at Inlet, the Hurricanes were 10-20, with two playoff appearances in a row after a winless 2010 campaign. Bell guided Suncoast to regional playoff appearances in 2002 and 2004.

Inlet Grove returns several key players from its 2012 season, including Class of 2014 speedster Shawun Lurry.
