Kc McDermott, Johnnie Dixon headline Class of 2014 Big Board Watch List

By Jeff Greer

With spring football right around the corner and signing day 2013 in the rear-view mirror, it’s time to turn our attention to Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast’s loaded Class of 2014.

Dwyer's Johnnie Dixon (right) and teammates Ezra Saffold (left) and Clint Stephens (middle) are part of a monster 2014 class.

Two Palm Beach County players stick out from the rest of the pack, with Palm Beach Central’s Miami-bound tackle Kc McDermott and Dwyer’s blazing-fast receiver Johnnie Dixon rated among the top prospects in the country. With McDermott (6-7, 285) definitively off the board — his verbal commitment to Miami is rock solid — attention now turns to Dixon, who’s being courted by Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon and scores of others.

But beyond this class’s Big Two, there’s a handful of big-time recruits. This class is loaded with receivers of every kind, from imposing possession wideouts to speedsters. Up on the Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce Central defensive end Rashawn Shaw already has big-time college coaches salivating, and his teammate, linebacker Sharieff Rhaheed, already chose LSU as his future school.

Matt Porter and I broke down the area’s top prospects into a digestible list of elite, next-tier and honorable-mention seniors who will surely attract college interest in the coming months. We’ll have the full rankings for the Big Board once spring practices begin. And remember, follow me (@jeffgreer) and Matt (@mattyports) on Twitter for regular recruiting updates.

The best way to break down the categories: “Elite” means the player has already received significant interest or even verbal offers from BCS or top programs. The next-tier guys are likely FBS prospects. The list below that includes players who could end up as FBS or FCS players.

As always, please keep the comments respectful. If you think we missed someone, let us know.
