Baseball: Seven Palm Beach State players earn all-conference nod

By Matt Porter

Heading into the junior college postseason, Palm Beach State received some conference accolades.

Led by Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year J.D. Underwood, the Panthers placed seven players on the all-conference team.

Underwood, a Palm Beach Gardens alum and Miami commit, was a first-team selection along with three fellow sophomores: catcher Jon Corbitt (Jupiter), pitcher Ryan Pistey (Park Vista) and outfielder Michael Stemle (Park Vista).

Second-team nods went to three freshmen: infielders Brett Lashley (Park Vista) and Marcus Mooney (Seminole Ridge) and outfielder Gabe Martinez (Palm Beach Central).

PBSC (32-17) is the No. 2 seed in the Southern Conference tournament, which it will host. The Panthers play a best-of-three series against the Broward College-Brevard Community College winner. Those two will play at 4 p.m. Friday, with the winner facing PBSC about 30 minutes after the game ends.

They will play again at noon Saturday. If necessary, Game 3 would be 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The winner gets a spot in the Florida College System Activities Association state tournament, which already includes Southern Conference winner Miami-Dade.
