Baseball: Jupiter’s Andy Mook a Class 8A coach of the year finalist

By Matt Porter

The coach of the most successful baseball team in Jupiter High school history received recognition from his peers and the media.

Andy Mook, who led the Warriors (23-5) to their first regional semifinal win, first regional championship and first state appearance in the program’s 50-year history, was named a statewide Class 8A coach of the year finalist by the Florida Dairy Farmers.

Mook, who took over for longtime coach Doug Ferguson before the 2012 season, finished second in the Class 8A voting to Altamonte Springs-Lake Brantley’s Eric Entrekin, whose team beat Jupiter in the 8A state semifinals and won the state title. Entrekin tallied 182 voting points to Mook’s 91.

The awards are voted on by a panel of high school baseball coaches and prep media representatives.
