One of the best hurdlers in Palm Beach County history will ply his trade at South Florida.

Park Vista’s Christopher Grinley, who became the only competitor in area history to win both the 110 and 300 hurdles at a state meet, was chased by a slew of big-name schools like Florida, Florida State, South Carolina dn Clemson, but felt best about USF.

“That was the first college that I visited,” Grinley said. “I felt comfortable there, even after going to every other school.”

Grinley noted USF’s track record of producing strong 400-meter hurdlers. One of them is 2008 Park Vista alum David Aristil, who was an All-American and Big East champion for the Bulls.

As a senior, Grinley ran a 36.29 in the 300 hurdles at regionals — the best time in the nation — and 13.86 in the 110 hurdles. At the Class 4A state meet in May, he won golds with a 37.47 in the 300 and 13.93 in the 110. As a junior, he won bronze in the 300 and took fourth in the 110.

Grinley said he’s glad the recruiting process is over. His next big hurdle to clear is the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. from June 14-16.
