Siegrist and Cruz form Palm Beach County battery for St. Louis Cardinals

By Matt Porter

One thing that popped out of a box score on Thursday night: two Palm Beach County guys forming a battery for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Via Palm Beach Post assistant sports editor Mark Bradley:

Kevin Siegrist, 23, a left-handed pitcher who played for Wellington High and Palm Beach State, was recalled from Class AAA and made his MLB debut Thursday night in relief for the Cardinals. Catching Siegrist was Lake Worth native Tony Cruz, a graduate of Santaluces High and also an ex-Palm Beach State player.

Siegrist came on with one out in the seventh inning with the Cards ahead 12-4 and pitched 1 2/3 innings. After giving up a run-scoring single to the first batter he faced, Siegrist retired his last five batters, four by strikeout. St. Louis won 12-8.
