Dwyer, Atlantic, Newman among area teams in Brandon Flowers 7-on-7 tournament

Eight area teams have committed to play in Brandon Flowers’ annual 7-on-7 tournament, which is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13 at Seacrest Sports Complex in Delray Beach.

Local squads planning to be there: Atlantic, Cardinal Newman, Dwyer (two teams), Lake Worth, Park Vista, Village Academy and West Boca Raton. That means fans can see three of the top wide receivers in the upcoming senior class -  Dwyer’s Johnnie Dixon, Cardinal Newman’s Travis Rudolph and Atlantic’s Adly Enoicy – along with Louisville-committed Park Vista standout safety Marques Gayot and UCF-bound Village Academy receiver Tre’Quan Smith.

The other schools in the tournament are Vero Beach, Pompano Beach-Blanche Ely, Hollywood-McArthur and three schools out of Coconut Creek: Monarch, North Broward Prep and Coconut Creek High.

Flowers, the Kansas City Chiefs cornerback and Atlantic High graduate, has invited several NFL players to his event, including New York Giants cornerback Jayron Hosley (Atlantic) and San Francisco 49ers receiver Anquan Boldin (Pahokee). There will be a football camp the day before, on Friday, July 12 from 9 a.m. to noon, and a charity bowling event on Thursday, July 11.
