Fort Pierce Central 2014 DE Rashawn Shaw commits to Louisville

By Jeff Greer

Fort Pierce Central coach Josh Shaffer predicted a package deal of his two prized defensive players earlier this year. Looks like the package split up — for now.

Central senior defensive end Rashawn Shaw verbally committed to Louisville on Thursday last week, picking the Cardinals over scores of other BCS programs recruiting him. His pledge breaks up the potential for a Central package deal for LSU, which snapped up linebacker Sharieff Rhaheed in March.

Shaw (6-3, 230) is considered one of the top defensive players in the area. He compiled 82 tackles and 14 sacks last year for the Cobras, who advanced to the Class 7A regional final last fall.

He’s the second area player Louisville has added to its 2014 class. Park Vista safety Marques Gayot committed to the Cardinals this spring.
