Ex-Palm Beach Central star Lloyd Howard at Georgia prep school

By Jeff Greer

Lloyd Howard won the large-schools rushing title in Palm Beach County last season and attracted scores of college recruiters to Palm Beach Central despite his 5-foot-7 frame.

Howard originally committed to FAU, but his academic situation has required him to attend Georgia Prep Sports Academy for a year before starting college. He’ll matriculate to the Atlanta school with former Palm Beach Central teammate Nikedel Pierre, a lineman who signed with Edward Waters but didn’t qualify.

Both players have Division I potential, with Howard in particular capable of playing at the FBS level. Going the prep route allows each player to patch up their academics while preserving their four years of college athletic eligibility.

The upcoming season is the first for Georgia Prep Sports Academy, a postgraduate school started by football coach Michael Carson. It plays a schedule mixed with other prep programs and a few small-college JV teams.
