Volleyball: What to expect in 2013

By Jeff Greer

The area’s defending state champs are loaded up for repeat runs.

Boca Raton returns enough talent to make another run at a state title.

Boca Raton starts the 2013 season with the same expectations as last year, when the Bobcats stormed to a Class 8A title. Jensen Beach won last year’s 5A title perhaps a year ahead of schedule, and the Falcons begin this fall with a fantastic roster. And if anything has been learned in recent years, it’s that Lake Worth Christian, the two-time 2A champs, will always contend for a state title in its classification.

The usual suspects line up to challenge the area’s big three. Both Jupiter and Wellington have strong teams in 8A. Martin County again has designs on 7A state. Royal Palm Beach, despite losing Bailey Williams, a key member of last year’s regional final team, should again have a chance at a postseason run. Atlantic stands in RPB’s way. Among the small schools, look out for Benjamin — the Bucs have some size on their front line.
