Baseball: Ex-Palm Beach Central star Devon Travis named Tigers minor league player of the year

By Jeff Greer

Devon Travis left a trail of achievements through his time in Palm Beach County as a youngster. He’s doing it elsewhere now.

Travis, a former Palm Beach Central star who played on the 2003 East Boynton Beach Little League All-Stars, was named the Detroit Tigers’ minor league player of the year after a stellar 2013 season.

The 22-year-old second baseman hit .352 in 77 games with Single-A West Michigan before moving up to High-A Lakeland, where we hit .350 in 55 games. A 13th-round draft pick in 2012, Travis played his college ball at Florida State.
