Football: The Best Performance of Week 9

By Anthony Chiang

We are getting to the end of the season and the games are starting to mean a little bit more. In Week 9, one player stepped up in a big game to knock off an unbeaten team on the road to win “The Best Performance of the Week” award. Clewiston wide receiver Lenorris Gaines is that player, as he helped Tigers coach Pete Walker beat his former team, Glades Day.

Lenorris Gaines, Clewiston, WR:

The performance: The junior scored Clewiston’s only two touchdowns of the contest Friday. Gaines caught four passes for 122 yards, including an 88-yard touchdown catch near the end of the first quarter. But Gaines’ move impressive play came on an 80-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter that resulted in a game-winning touchdown.

Season stats: Gaines is Clewiston’s leading receiver this year, as he has recorded 21 catches for 578 yards and six touchdowns. He has accounted for more than half of the team’s 1,008 yards through the air this season.
