By Anthony Chiang

A pair of Palm Beach County golfers finished in the top three at the Class 1A state tournament at Harbor Hills Country Club in Lady Lake.

Benjamin’s Caroline Araskog ended the two-day event in second as an individual with a two-under 142, and American Heritage’s Mary Janiga finished in third with a one-under 143. Although Araskog was listed as tied for fourth and Janiga was listed as sixth on the leaderboard, three of the golfers in front of them did not qualify to compete for individual honors.

According to the FHSAA Golf Sport Manual, “to be eligible for individual honors on the state level, a student-athlete shall compete for individual honors on the district and regional levels.” Abbey Carlson from Winter Park-Circle Christian, Gaby Coello from Windermere Prep and Samantha Wagner from Circle Christian did not participate in their district tournaments, allowing Araskog and Janiga to take second and third place, respectively.
