Cardinal Newman had a chance to clinch the district title with a victory over American Heritage on Friday, but Stallions running back Devin Singletary stepped up to earn “The Best Performance of the Week” award. The performance: The sophomore took 27 carries for 290 yards and three touchdowns to lead American Heritage to a big victory over the Crusaders. Singletary gave the Stallions an early 7-0 lead with an 80-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. From there, the running back scored on a 17-yard run and a 50-yard run.

In the player’s words: “We weren’t letting no other team celebrate on our field. We worked too hard all year,” Singletary said. “Man, we’re as good as anybody when we focus and execute. If we do that come Monday, we’ll be fine.”
