Football: Seminole Ridge gear not allowed at playoff game due to “security reasons”

By Anthony Chiang

After a contentious first-round playoff game between Palm Beach Central and Seminole Ridge that included trash talk between players and coaches, the Broncos took action.

Palm Beach Central did not allow spectators to wear Seminole Ridge attire to the Broncos’ home game against Palm Beach Gardens in the Class 8A regional semifinals on Friday due to “security reasons.”

“The principal decided that was the way it was going to be,” Palm Beach Central athletic director Ron Matella said.

A fan at Friday’s game tweeted, “As per Central principal, no Seminole Ridge attire allowed at game tonight. My 47 y/o wife was made to turn sweatshirt inside out. Wow!”

The Hawks have faced the Broncos in the postseason for the past three seasons. Seminole Ridge won the first two matchups, but Palm Beach Central won this year’s meeting in the regional quarterfinals.
