Girls Hoops: Inside the new Top 10, plus this week’s best games

By Anthony Chiang

There is a new team in this week’s Top 10.

Pahokee made its debut, coming in at No. 5 after starting the season with four straight wins. Cardinal Newman fell out of the Top 10 due to a three-game losing streak. But the top four stayed the same.

Here’s the new Post Top 10 entering Week 3 of the season:

1. Grandview Prep (2-0): Earned blowout victory over Fort Lauderdale-Pine Crest last week.
2. Dwyer (3-0): Keyanna Harris averaging 23.7 points per game.
3. Lake Worth (3-0): Jonika Garvin and Erna Normil combined to score 40 points in a win over Boynton Beach.
4. Palm Beach Lakes (4-0): The Rams have started the season strong.
5. Pahokee (4-0): The Blue Devils squeaked out a two-point win against Lincoln Park Academy.
6. Boca Raton (3-1): Grace Marko is averaging 23.3 points per game for the Bobcats.
7. Oxbridge Academy (4-0): Opposing teams scoring just 20 points per game against the Thunderwolves.
8. Park Vista (5-0): Kiara Meeks had 21 points and 11 steals in a win over Olympic Heights last week.
9. Suncoast (4-1): Only loss this season came against Park Vista.
10. Boynton Beach (2-1): Shoulder injury to star Shakoa Edwards has slowed the Tigers down.

Games of the Week:

No. 9 Suncoast (4-1) at Cardinal Newman (3-3), Monday at 7 p.m.: The Crusaders recently fell out of the Post’s Top 10 after losing three straight games. One of those losses came against Suncoast, but Cardinal Newman will look for some revenge on Monday. If the Crusaders are going to snap their skid, Milan Morris (20.3 ppg) and Tytionia Adderly (17 ppg) will have to turn in big performances. Meanwhile, Suncoast features Jaylin Hawkins, who recorded 15 points in the victory over Cardinal Newman last week. Will the Crusaders get back on track?

No. 1 Grandview Prep (2-0) at No. 6 Boca Raton (3-1), Tuesday at 7 p.m.:
This is one of the best matchups of the young season. Grandview Prep has only played two games this year, but the team is full of talent. 6-foot-4 center Vionise Pierre-Louis is the star, averaging 21 points this season. Her physical presence makes it tough for opposing teams and the Bobcats will have to find a way to limit her touches Tuesday. Boca Raton relies on good three-point shooters, as Grace Marko has hit 12 shots from behind the arc in four games. This will be a good early season test for the Bobcats.
