Boys Hoops: Inside the new Top 10, plus this week’s best games

By Anthony Chiang

The top three changed this week.

With Grandview Prep losing to Suncoast, Lake Worth Christian moved into the No. 2 spot and the Pride fell to No. 3. On the other end of the result, Suncoast jumped into the top five after handing Grandview Prep its first loss of the season. On the bottom half of the Top 10, Atlantic moved back into the rankings behind two straight wins.

Here’s the new Post Top 10 entering Week 3 of the season:

1. Palm Beach Lakes (3-0): The Rams have been led by Gito St. Fort (16.7 ppg).
2. Lake Worth Christian (4-1): Scoring 82.8 points per game this season.
3. Grandview Prep (3-1): Fell one spot after close loss to Suncoast.
4. Dwyer (3-0): The Panthers keep winning after disappointing season last year.
5. Suncoast (4-1): A 3-0 week moves the Chargers into the top five.
6. Martin County (3-0): The Tigers have started the season with three wins.
7. Spanish River (3-0): Jeff Demezier has been impressive for the Sharks.
8. John I. Leonard (4-0): Ramon Birch leads the Lancers, scoring 20 points per game.
9. Atlantic (2-1): After starting with a loss, the Eagles have won two straight.
10. Lake Worth (1-2): Losses are to No. 1 Palm Beach Lakes and No. 9 Atlantic.

No. 4 Dwyer (3-0) at No. 10 Lake Worth (1-2), Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.: Last season, the Panthers posted the worst record (8-16) in school history. This year, Dwyer is off to a strong start. The Panthers will look to take another step in the right direction against a Lake Worth team that has played a tough schedule early on. The Trojans have already lost to No. 1 Palm Beach Lakes and No. 9 Atlantic. Dwyer will be another tough test for Lake Worth, as the Panthers feature a young squad led by sophomores Jordan Gonzalez and Thomas Agnew.

No. 9 Atlantic (2-1) at No. 1 Palm Beach Lakes (3-0), Friday at 7:30 p.m.: Although Atlantic doesn’t look as strong as it did last year, this will still be a good matchup. The Eagles have rebounded from an 0-1 start by winning two straight, and Palm Beach Lakes looks like the best team in Palm Beach County this season. The Rams have won each of their first three games by at least 10 points. Will they continue that streak against Atlantic on Friday?
