The waiting game will continue.
Dwyer wide receiver Johnnie Dixon was planning to announce his college decision at JJ Muggs Stadium Grill in Jupiter on Sunday night, but the senior has decided to postpone his announcement. Dixon will wait until after the Panthers take on Niceville in the Class 7A state title game on Friday to make his decision public, but a specific date has not been set yet.
“Will not be deciding tonight,” Dixon tweeted on Sunday afternoon. “My team and state championship is more important right now!!!”
The 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver is considering Alabama, Miami, Ohio State, N.C. State and Arkansas, but Dixon told the Palm Beach Post his top three are Alabama, Miami and Ohio State.
“He’s maybe not 100 percent sure any longer, and he really wanted to wait until the end of the season,” Dwyer coach Jack Daniels said. “He didn’t want to take away focus from the season.”
According to a source, Dixon was leaning toward verbally committing to Alabama last week. But Dixon took a visit to Miami on Saturday, which could be playing a factor in Dixon’s indecisiveness.
Dixon is ranked as the third-best recruit on PBGametime’s Class of 2014 Big Board, and 24-7 Sports rates Dixon as a four-star prospect.
Over the past two weeks, Dixon has played his best football of the season. In two playoff wins, he has caught a total of nine passes for 249 yards and four touchdowns.
