Former Park Vista Star Tre Mason wins AP SEC Offensive Player of the Year

By Anthony Chiang

Tre Mason continues to make Palm Beach County proud.

The Auburn running back was named the 2013 Associated Press Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year on Monday. Mason, who played his high school football at Park Vista, leads the SEC with 1,621 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns this season. He is among six finalists for the Heisman Trophy, which will be awarded in New York on Saturday.

But Mason saved his best performance of the year for the SEC Championship game, rushing for SEC title game records 304 yards and four touchdowns on 46 carries in a 59-42 victory over Missouri on Saturday. With the win, Auburn secured a spot in the BCS national championship game.

As a senior at Park Vista, Mason was rated a four-star recruit by Rivals.com. Florida, Florida State and Miami did not recruit him. Tre has a brother, Chauncey Mason, who just finished his junior season as a running back for Park Vista.
