By Anthony Chiang

After being named as one of the six finalists for the Heisman Trophy in December, Auburn running back Tre Mason will receive another honor Friday.

The former Park Vista standout will have his high school jersey retired in a ceremony held at halftime of Friday’s Cobras vs. Santaluces boys basketball game, which is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held at Park Vista and Mason is expected to speak.

Park Vista will present Mason with a gift and show a video of the former Cobras star.

Earlier this month, Mason announced he would forgo his senior year at Auburn to enter the April NFL draft. As a junior, he was named the 2013 Associated Press Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 1,816 yards and 23 touchdowns.

As a senior at Park Vista, Mason was rated a four-star recruit by Rivals.com. Florida, Florida State and Miami did not recruit him. Tre has a brother, Chauncey Mason, who just finished his junior season as a running back for Park Vista.
