Recruiting: Fort Pierce Central DE Rashawn Shaw verbally commits to Wake Forest

By Anthony Chiang

After Charlie Strong left Louisville, things changed for Rashawn Shaw.

The 2014 Fort Pierce Central defensive end decommitted from Louisville and opened up the recruiting process. Shaw closed the process again on Wednesday night, verbally committing to Wake Forest.

“When Charlie Strong left, he started to open up his recruitment,” Fort Pierce Central coach Josh Shaffer said. “He realized that he shouldn’t commit to a coach, but to an atmosphere and a school. When he was looking around, he really liked the small college feel of Wake Forest, but also the big time college football part of it.”

Even after Bobby Petrino was hired, Louisville still recruited Shaw. The Cardinals were trying to get the three-star recruit to take an official visit to the school this weekend, but Shaw was already looking elsewhere.

With less than two weeks left before signing day, Shaw is ready to sign with Wake Forest. According to his coach, the sixth best prospect on the PBGametime Class of 2014 Big Board will not take any more official visits.

“He’s done,” Shaffer said. “I think at the end of the day, he’s officially committed to Wake Forest.”
