Football: Dwyer to hold Matt Elam Appreciation Night

By Anthony Chiang

Just four years after graduating from Dwyer, former Panthers standout Matt Elam will make his return.

Dwyer will hold Matt Elam Appreciation Night at Tuesday’s home boys basketball game against Palm Beach Gardens, which tips off at 7:30 p.m. A short ceremony for the Baltimore Ravens safety will be held before the contest. Elam is scheduled to be present at the ceremony.

After leading the Panthers to their first football state title in school history in 2009, Elam took his talents to the University of Florida, where he played for three seasons.

Elam was then drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round with the 32nd overall pick. In his rookie season, he recorded 77 tackles and one interception.

At Dwyer, Elam was a two-time Lou Groza award winner as the Palm Beach County Player of the Year and one of the nation’s elite high school recruits.
