Lake Worth Christian’s Hobbs commits to Texas-Pan American

By Jodie Wagner

Lake Worth Christian guard Isaiah Hobbs is taking his talents to Texas this fall after committing to Texas-Pan American over the weekend.

The 6-foot-4 senior, who is averaging 20.8 points for the Defenders this season, verbally committed to the school on Sunday.

He chose the Broncs over Wofford, FIU and Rider.

“It’s the best fit for me,” said Hobbs, who made an official visit to the Edinburg, Texas, school in November. “I’m going to be able to go in and make a difference.”

Texas-Pan American competes in the Western Athletic Conference.

Hobbs should make an impact right away, Defenders coach Frank Baxley said.

“He has the skill set to compete at the next level,” Baxley said of Hobbs, who plans to sign officially April 16. “The biggest difference for kids when they transition from this level to the next is speed and physicality.”

Hobbs, who transferred to Lake Worth Christian this season after spending three years at Benjamin, has teamed with junior forward Jeantal Cylla (24.6 ppg) and junior guard Kamil Willliams (20.8 ppg) to form a potent scoring trio.

The Defenders are 20-3 this season. District tournaments begin Monday.
