Area wrestlers set to compete at regionals this weekend

Dozens of area wrestling teams will compete in regional competition today and Saturday.

Eight schools around the state are hosting regional meets. Local wrestlers will be competing at Martin County High School (Class 3A, Region 3); Jensen Beach High School (Class 2A, Region 4); and Fort Lauderdale-Cardinal Gibbons (Class 1A, Region 4).

Meets began today at 10 a.m. with the weigh-in. First- and second-round action starts at noon.

Saturday’s schedule includes the weigh-in at 8 a.m., semifinals at 10 a.m., third- and fourth-round action at 12:30 p.m. and consolation/championship finals at 6 p.m.

The top finishers advance to the FHSAA Finals, which will be held Feb. 14-15 at The Lakeland Center.

Here is a list of area teams competing today and Saturday:

Class 3A: Atlantic, Boca Raton, Centennial, Dwyer, Fort Pierce Central, John I. Leonard, Jupiter, Lake Worth, Martin County, Olympic Heights, Palm Beach Central, Palm Beach Gardens, Park Vista, Royal Palm Beach, Santaluces, Seminole Ridge, Spanish River, Treasure Coast.

Class 2A: Jensen Beach, Okeechobee, Port St. Lucie, South Fork, Forest Hill, Palm Beach Lakes, Suncoast.

Class 1A: American Heritage, Benjamin, Cardinal Newman, Fort Pierce Westwood, Glades Central, Jupiter Christian, St. Andrew’s.
