Berean Christian preparing for boys hoops regional Thursday

By Jodie Wagner

The Berean Christian boys basketball team didn’t celebrate for long after winning its second district championship in six seasons under coach John Lantz.

The Bulldogs returned to the court shortly after beating Summit Christian Feb. 8 in the District 12-2A championship game.

Berean Christian (16-11) has been preparing all week to play Master’s Academy of Vero Beach, which it will host Thursday at 7 p.m. in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal.

The Bulldogs know little about the Patriots, Lantz said, but his team is prepared for a hard-fought game.

“We definitely feel like we have a great chance of beating them and moving forward to the semifinal round,” he said. “Our game plan is to go after them hard and see what happens.”

The Bulldogs have prepared for the post-season by playing a challenging schedule, which has included a handful of games against larger schools like South Fork, Palm Beach Central and Centennial.

The schedule has helped Berean Christian grow as a team, Lantz said. The Bulldogs also were able to overcome the loss of four seniors to win the district title.

“I’m very proud of these guys,” he said. “This team has really jelled, even with the loss of four seniors.”
