It has been just one week, but we have already learned a lot.
First, Park Vista is as good as we all thought. Second, Trinity Christian is ready to get back to district play after serving a three-year suspension. Third, this is going to be a fun season.
Post Top 10
1. Park Vista (3-0): Hitting .337 as a team.
2. Palm Beach Gardens (1-1): Fell to Jensen Beach.
3. Trinity Christian (4-0): Won the Santaluces Slam.
4. West Boca Raton (1-0): Posted a shutout to start the season.
5. Palm Beach Central (2-1-1): Good start for a young team.
6. Seminole Ridge (3-0): Outscored opponents 28-4 through first three games.
7. American Heritage (2-2): After winning first two, Stallions dropped next two.
8. Benjamin (2-2): Lost in Santaluces Slam championship.
9. King’s Academy (2-2): Scored more than three runs just once last week.
10. Jupiter (1-3): Scored combined three runs in three losses.
The first week was eventful to say the least. The Santaluces Slam gave many of the teams in our Top 10 an opportunity to face off. Trinity Christian came away victorious, beating three ranked teams to win the tourney and jump four spots to No. 3. After a three-year suspension from district play, it was a week to remember for the Warriors.
Seminole Ridge is another team that benefited from an impressive first week. The Hawks won their first three games by a combined score of 28-4. Kyle Farjad collected five RBIs and hit a home run to power Seminole Ridge’s offense. The Hawks’ big week helped them move up three spots to No. 6.
Unlike Trinity Christian and Seminole Ridge, Jupiter and Dwyer did not have memorable opening weeks. Jupiter ended the Santaluces Slam with a 1-3 record, dropping the Warriors from No. 3 to No. 10. Jupiter began the season with high expectations, but the team’s bats will need to improve if it wants to live up to the hype. The Warriors were held to two runs or less in three of their first four games. Meanwhile, Dwyer began the season with an 0-2 record and dropped out of the Post’s Top 10.
Games of the Week
No. 5 Palm Beach Central (2-1-1) at No. 6 Seminole Ridge (3-0), Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.: A district matchup between two teams in our Top 10 is something we all look for when we check the schedule. This game has it, as the Broncos and the Hawks battle for a chance to start district play with a bang. Palm Beach Central is young, but it began the season by scoring 24 runs in its first four games. The Hawks’ pitching will try to put a stop to that trend on Tuesday.
No. 8 Benjamin (2-2) at No. 3 Trinity Christian (4-0), Tuesday at 7 p.m.: These two teams played for the Santaluces Slam championship on Friday and Trinity Christian earned a decisive 11-1 win. The Warriors will look to make it two in a row against a talented Benjamin team this week.
No. 1 Park Vista (3-0) at No. 10 Jupiter (1-3), Friday at 7 p.m.: The Warriors need to get things back on track quickly. Jupiter did not have a good showing at the Santaluces Slam, losing three of its first four games. Despite losing 11 seniors from last year’s team that reached the state semifinals, Jupiter was still expected to be one of the area’s top teams. A win over a loaded Park Vista team would help the Warriors get things going in that direction again.
