Frank Baxley resigns as Lake Worth Christian boys hoops coach

By Jodie Wagner

Lake Worth Christian boys basketball coach Frank Baxley has resigned after four years with the program.

Baxley, who compiled a 77-41 record with the Defenders and advanced to the regional semifinals four straight years, said he reached his decision mutually with the school.

“They kind of wanted to go in a different direction,” said Baxley, who does not teach at the school. “They allowed me to resign. They wanted to do something else.”

Lake Worth Christian Athletic Director Jim Harwood said Baxley’s status as an off-campus coach made it difficult for him to devote the proper amount of time to his players.

“He has a lot going on with his young family,” Harwood said. “I think it was really hard for him to be involved in the day-to-day lives of the kids as much as he really would like to. Getting here to school for practices was becoming more and more of a challenge.”

Harwood said a coaching search would begin immediately, but there is no timetable to find a replacement.

“We’re just looking for the right person,” Harwood said. “We really want somebody who can be part of the day-to-day lives of the students and really help them to grow.”

The Defenders finished 25-5 this season.
