Rain shuffles high school schedule

By Anthony Chiang

Inclement weather passed through the area and rearranged the high school sports schedule on Tuesday.

Soggy fields forced eight baseball games, eight softball games, one girls lacrosse game, four flag football games and four tennis matches to either be canceled or postponed.

The baseball games that were affected included No. 8 Cardinal Newman’s district matchup at King’s Academy and No. 9 Wellington’s district matchup at No. 5 Palm Beach Central. The Crusaders’ big game against the Lions has been moved to Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., and the Wolverines will take on the Broncos on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

“For us, we have our district pitchers and we’ll just move them back a day,” Wellington coach Scott Riddle said. “I have two good starters that I feel comfortable throwing at any time. It’s not going to affect us as much.”

Out of the eight softball games that were canceled or postponed, only one has been rescheduled as of Tuesday night. Atlantic’s home game against Forest Hill will be played on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

The lone girls lacrosse game that was affected was Dwyer’s home game against Olympic Heights. A makeup date has not been determined.
