By Jodie Wagner

Grandview Prep guard Jamal Palmer finished second in Class 2A Florida Dairy Farmers Player of the Year voting.

Palmer, a junior, averaged 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game last season to lead the Pride to the Class 2A state basketball championship game.

Orlando Christian Prep senior guard Adonys Henriquez was the top Class 2A vote-getter in balloting by a statewide panel of high school boys’ basketball coaches and media members.

Henriquez finished with 111 points to Palmer’s 102. J.T. Escobar of Tallahassee-FAMU finished third with 90 points.

The winners of each class’s player of the year award automatically become a candidate for Florida’s Mr. Basketball.

Henriquez’s Orlando Christian Prep team defeated Grandview Prep 53-49 Feb. 27 in the Class 2A state title game in Lakeland.
