Water polo: District competition begins Monday

District competition in boys and girls water polo begins Monday at 16 host sites throughout the state.

The top teams advance to FHSAA Finals First-Round play-in competition April 22. The FHSAA Finals will be held April 25-26 at Ransom Everglades High School in Miami.

Pinecrest-Gulliver Prep is the girls defending champion and Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas is the boys defending champion.

Suncoast and St. Andrew’s advanced to the girls state quarterfinals last season, while St. Andrew’s was a state semifinalist last season in boys competition.

Locally, Suncoast and Spanish River are hosting district competition at Lake Worth High School and Spanish River, respectively.

Here is the schedule:

District 7, at Lake Worth High School: Wednesday, girls semifinals – (2) Sebastian vs. (3) Lake Worth, 4:30 p.m.; (1) Suncoast vs. (4) Dwyer, 5:30 p.m. Boys finals  – (1) Suncoast vs. (2) Lake Worth, 6:30 p.m. Girls finals, 7:30 p.m.

District 8, at Spanish River High School: Tuesday, boys semifinal – (2) St. Andrew’s vs. (3) Spanish River, 4:30 p.m. Girls semifinal – (2) Spanish River vs. (3) Boca Raton, 5:30 p.m. Boys semifinal – (1) Boca Raton vs. (4) American Heritage, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, girls championship, (1) St. Andrew’s vs. Spanish River/Boca Raton winner, 6:30 p.m. Boys championship, 7:30 p.m.
