Girls tennis: Heritage’s Kasey Moore wins state title; Oxbridge pair 2nd

American Heritage’s Kasey Moore won the girls No. 4 team singles title Thursday at the FHSAA State Tennis Championships in Casselberry.

Moore, the top seed, defeated No. 2 seed Lindsey Mendelson of Miami-Ranson Everglades 6-1, 6-2 in the championship match.

Two other Stallions players reached the team singles finals. Angelica Blake lost to Claudia McKenzie of Ransom Everglades 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Melissa Sakar was beaten by Daniela Lopez of Ransom Everglades 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

American Heritage’s No. 1 doubles pair of Dominique Mortier and Sakar fell to Allegra Hanlon and Lopez of Ransom Everglades 1-6, 6-4, 10-1 in the championship match.

In overall team competition, American Heritage and Windermere Prep tied for second with nine points, 10 behind champion Ransom Everglades.

Oxbridge Academy’s Rachel Bercovitch and Sophia Chavarria advanced to the individual doubles championship match Thursday. The pair fell to top-seeded Mary Ann Rompf and Maria Ross of Sarasota-Out-of-Door Academy 6-2, 6-1.
