Football: 2014 Dwyer CB Shawun Lurry signs with Northern Illinois

By Anthony Chiang

After signing with Blinn College on signing day, 2014 Dwyer cornerback Shawun Lurry has found a new home.

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound speedster signed with Northern Illinois on Saturday, according to Dwyer coach Jack Daniels. Lurry will join high school teammate wide receiver Ezra Saffold, who signed with the Huskies on signing day.

Lurry transferred from Inlet Grove to Dwyer before his senior season. As a Panther, Lurry excelled as a cornerback. He shined in big moments, intercepting two passes in Dwyer’s victory over Niceville in the Class 7A state championship.

Lurry and Saffold will join former Dwyer standout wide receiver Tommylee Lewis at Northern Illinois next season.
