Softball: Wellington moves up to No. 2 in Class 8A softball poll

By Jodie Wagner

Wellington jumped three spots from fifth to second in the Miracle Sports Class 8A state softball poll released Tuesday.

Wellington's Stephanie Schmidt delivers a pitch against Jupiter last week in the District 9-8A championship game.

The Wolverines (22-4) achieved their highest state ranking of the season following their 4-1 victory against Jupiter last Friday in the District 9-8A championship game.

Wellington will host Boca Raton Wednesday in a Class 8A regional quarterfinal. A rematch with Jupiter would follow if the Warriors (22-4) are able to beat District 10-8A champion Park Vista on Wednesday.

Jupiter dropped to No. 5 in this week’s poll. The Cobras (19-8) were named honorable mention.

Also earning a state ranking this week are Dwyer (No. 10) in Class 7A, Lincoln Park Academy (No. 4) in Class 4A, Trinity Christian (No. 2) in Class 3A, and Grandview Prep (No. 7) in Class 2A.
