Santaluces’ Kyle Smith promoted to Double-A

After impressing as part of the High-A Lancaster Jethawks, a Houston Astros affiliate, Kyle Smith was promoted to the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks on Thursday.

Smith, a Santaluces High grad, posted a 4-0 record and a 2.60 ERA in 27 2/3 innings with Lancaster before being promoted. The 6-foot right-hander also struck out 31 batters in that time.

The Boynton Beach native was the Post All-Area large schools player of the year in 2011, when he posted a 0.40 ERA and 116 strikeouts for Santaluces. Smith was a selected by the Kansas City Royals in the fourth round of the 2011 MLB Draft, and he was traded to the Houston Astros in 2013.
