Boys basketball: Park Vista, Palm Beach Gardens hire new coaches

By Jodie Wagner

Palm Beach Gardens and Park Vista have hired new boys basketball coaches, the schools’ athletic directors said Friday.

Palm Beach Gardens hired Drew Quinn to replace longtime coach Jim Arbogast, Gators Athletic Director Bill Weed said. Quinn spent the previous two seasons as the head coach at Park Vista.

Quinn’s replacement at Park Vista will be Edwin James, Cobras Athletic Director Pam Romero said.

James, a former head coach at Glades Central, spent last season as an assistant at Palm Beach Lakes.

He’ll fill a need academically and athletically at Park Vista, Romero said. James will coach basketball and serve the school as a Behavior Intervention Associate.

“We are very excited to have Edwin James as our coach,” Romero said. “It’s a great transition for Park Vista.”

Park Vista finished the 2013-14 season with a 17-9 record. The Cobras lost to state semifinalist John I. Leonard in the district playoffs.

The Gators finished 8-15 last season under Arbogast, who retired April 23 after 23 seasons as coach.

Palm Beach Gardens interviewed numerous candidates for the head coaching position before selecting Quinn, Weed said.

“Coach Quinn has experience and success at many levels and we look forward to him joining our coaching staff,” Weed said.
