Former Palm Beach Central assistant Klay Smith has been hired to coach the Inlet Grove football team, athletic director Marc Davis said Friday.
Smith will replace Matthew Semerano, who went 0-10 last year in his only season at Inlet Grove.
“He brings a lot of energy,” Davis said of Smith, who coached wide receivers at Palm Beach Central last season. “The kids are drawn to him right now. Hopefully we’ll turn our program back around. We’re kind of young, but we have some good kids.”
Smith, a Royal Palm Beach High School graduate, has previous head coaching experience, spending one season at Coral Springs Charter School in 2010.
He looks forward to helping rebuild the Hurricanes, who will play as an independent this season. Inlet Grove will play a 10-game schedule against teams from Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
“I’m excited for the season,” said Smith, who has been running spring practice at the school. We’ve generated a lot of buzz, because every day we get at least one or two more players coming out. We’re excited for the season to start and play Hurricane football.”
