Recruiting: Dwyer QB Daniel Parr chooses FAU

By Anthony Chiang

Daniel Parr is planning to stay close to home.

The 2015 Dwyer quarterback confirmed via text message that he verbally committed to Florida Atlantic on Friday. Parr chose the Owls over Marshall, Akron, Miami and Yale.

After receiving an offer from the Hurricanes earlier this month, Parr was scheduled to visit the University of Miami on Friday. But he canceled and decided to commit to FAU.

“The decisions been made. #owlsup2015,” Parr tweeted.

Parr was named the Palm Beach Post’s All-Area Large Schools Offensive Player of the Year as a junior after throwing for 36 touchdowns and more than 3,000 yards to lead Dwyer to its second state title. In the process, he threw just four interceptions, giving him a touchdown-to-interception ratio of nine.

“They have a great class of 2015 recruits coming in,” Parr said of FAU in a text message to the Palm Beach Post. “I really like the coaching staff, and they’re building all new facilities to go along with the new stadium.”

Parr is ranked as the ninth-best recruit on PBgametime’s Class of 2014 Big Board

With Parr’s commitment, FAU has landed four verbal commitments from 2015 athletes with at least three stars next to their names. Parr (three stars) joins Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas running back Jordan Scarlett (four stars), St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Rashard Causey (three stars), and South Plantation safety Rodrick Archer (three stars).

Good for him to  sign early because he won't look as good this year without all that talent he had last year. May not even make playoffs in district

@NRAShillsKillMomsAndKids ,please don't get worked up. You're reading a sports article. It's going to be about sports. Daniel is one of a very few athletes that are skilled enough to play D-1 sports and his dream is starting to take shape. To Daniel I say a huge congratulations. Take the opportunity to play football and get an education. No one, not even someone as smart as NRA, knows what the future holds. Way to go.And yes , you are part of a huge recruiting year for FAU. Can't wait to see you representing FAU on the field.

That's nice, I guess.

Congrats, kinda.

But you don't seriously expect us to believe anyone with a brain and educated parents and adequate scholarships would choose FAU over Yale, do you?

Four years in the locker room instead of the library, no realistic chance of NFL pickup, and  he'll be selling insurance or used cars to the tune of Springsteen's "Glory Days" like thousands of others who have crossed these sports pages before.  Hopefully it is not too late for him to hang up the spikes and head for New Haven.

Now tell us something important... like where did the top few chem students and math majors commit to?  Start giving those dramas and decisions equal coverage with sports if you want to inspire youth and see this Nation excel, progress, prosper, and survive rather than decline in a morass of bread and circuses and concussed old men bragging on bar stools and sometimes forgetting about what.

Very smart move by Daniel Parr--two FAU players were just drafted into the NFL  and on player from Buffalo was the number 5 pick--Morris HB with Washington went to FAU-------Lowell Levine
